BODE Prognostic Index in COPD
Four domains—obstruction, dyspnea, exercise capacity, and nutritional status—predict COPD mortality much better than FEV₁ alone. It was the finding that displaced FEV₁ as the only prognostic marker.
Required inputs
| Variable | Example value |
|---|---|
| Post-bronchodilator FEV₁ (% of predicted value) | — |
| Distance walked in the 6-minute walk test (meters) | — |
| mMRC dyspnea grade (2 = walks slower than peers or stops to rest; 3 = stops after about 100 m on level ground; 4 = breathless when dressing) | — |
| Body mass index (kg/m²) | — |
Run the calculation in the app
This page explains the score but does not run it. In Epistemis, the calculator validates units, flags values outside physiological ranges, and provides the interpretation that a number alone cannot convey.
