Emergencies: Critical Skills and Procedures
Emergency · Clinical Specialties
How it begins
The Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) is the cornerstone of airway management in the emergency department. It consists of the simultaneous administration of a powerful inducing agent and a fast-acting neuromuscular blocking agent to induce unconsciousness and flaccid paralysis, facilitating direct orotracheal intubation or by videolaryngoscopy, minimizing the risk of aspiration of gastric contents.
